Biography

Mike Fritz is a film composer, arranger, jazz pianist and vocalist.

He's recognized for his captivating renditions of the Great American Songbook, showcasing a wide range of jazz styles, including swing, stride, bebop, modal, fusion, and jazz funk. The quartet frequently performs and holds residencies in the Boston metropolitan area, notably in Cambridge and Needham.

Early Musical Experiences:

Fritz's early musical experiences included singing in choirs and being exposed to his mother's classical piano practice, which he credits with fostering his ear training and sense of musical expression. He initially played the clarinet in his school band before picking up the saxophone in 11th grade to join the jazz band and participate in a European tour. This tour was a pivotal moment, introducing him to jazz and featuring a publicity photo opportunity with drumming legend Gene Krupa. During this time, smooth jazz artist Marion Meadows, also in the band, encouraged Fritz to delve into the works of jazz giants like Cannonball Adderley, Miles Davis, and John Coltrane, further igniting his passion for jazz.
